Wow. I’m blown away here.

I used to work for a fine art photographer in New York City who was sponsored by Canon cameras. Lucky for me, I got to get all their new gear to test and use for her. It was back in 2002 when digital cameras finally became the film killer that they are now. I was happy just to have a full frame sensor that was 12 megapixels. It was the greatest thing in the world.

Since then things have been rapidly progressing. Canon is now making full frame Hi-Def chips that blow my old camera completely out of the water. What is even more impressive is the fact that they can now shoot video as well. To take it up yet another notch, they can shoot in the most unbelievably low light conditions- situations that would never have even been considered possible even 4 years ago.

I wandered into this video from photographer/ videographer Vincent Laforet. The lucky bastard recently used the new Canon 1D MKIV to shoot some HI-Def vid in some serious low light conditions. This is what he ended up with…

(Click here to watch the vid)

One of the the things I hate about living in Atlanta after New York City is the movie situation. Atlanta is right on the edge of being one of those places that only gets the “no-brainer” blockbuster crap movies. The obscure films do come here but you’ve got to be on top of your game to catch them. They either go to Midtown Art Cinema for about a week or they skip through the Plaza Theater quickly. To see everything you’ve just got to catch the listings every week.

This weekend I was lucky enough to catch It Might Get Loud, the film from Davis Guggenheim that brings Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin, The Edge of U2, and Jack White of the White Stripes together to talk about guitars and playing music. I was blown away to say the very least. It is worth seeing the movie just to hear Jimmy Page’s story alone. I had no idea he had a hand in so many different projects.

I still have no idea why The Edge was asked to be in the film. I think Eddie Van Halen or Slash would have fit the slot much better than The Edge for representing that time period but I was open minded going into the film. The film is worth seeing just to see the section where Jimmy Page busts into Whole Lotta Love and The Edge and Jack White’s jaws hit the floor at the same time. I had to pick up my jaw several times during the film.

You can see the website for the film here. See if the film is playing in your area and check it out!

I recently saw the trailer for the film, Guest of Cindy Sherman. Now I want to see the movie. Why are all really interesting movies under limited or no release nationwide? It’s like you have to have a 2 billion dollar budget and subject material that is on a 2nd grade IQ level to get a full release.

Cindy Sherman is an American photographer most well known for her series, “Untitled Film Stills”, where she placed herself as an unnamed actress in shots reminiscent of foreign films. I wouldn’t say she’s one of my favorite photographers but her work has always stood out in my mind for being so original and personal to her. There are a lot of amazing photographers out there that I completely forget about until one of their images pops up in front of me. Cindy Sherman has never been one of them.

In 1993 Paul H-O started Gallery Beat, a public access television program that playfully chronicled the New York art scene. H-O played the roll of a “Beavis and Butthead” outsider looking into the exclusive world of the art elite on Gallery Beat.

Everything changed for Paul H-O when he met Cindy Sherman. Over the course of several interviews their relationship grew into romance and Paul found himself swept into the NYC art scene, becoming known as Cindy’s companion.

You can check out the trailer and the website here.
